Tony and Sarah’s Wedding at Birtsmorton Court, Malvern, Worcestershire

When you photograph many weddings as I do across Worcestershire, there are always a few that stand out. Tony and Sarah’s wedding at Birtsmorton Court in Malvern was one of those days that had absolutely everything: fun, laughter, surprises, and numerous personal touches that made it uniquely theirs. I arrived at Birtsmorton Court just before the ceremony, giving me time to capture all the little details before the guests arrived. Straight away I could tell that this was going to be a wedding full of character. The décor inside the wedding breakfast space was incredible, white drapes hanging across the ceiling, carefully styled tables, and instead of standard centrepieces, they used seven-inch vinyl records, showcasing their love for music. It felt so personal and it photographed beautifully.

Outdoor Ceremony at Birtsmorton Court

Although I’ve photographed at Birtsmorton Court many times before, this was actually my first outdoor wedding at the venue. I couldn’t wait to capture it. The weather could not have been better: warm, bright, but not overly sunny. Guests gathered outside, chatting and enjoying drinks on the lawn, and the atmosphere was really relaxed. As a documentary style wedding photographer, this is exactly the kind of vibe I love. I much prefer to stand back, let the moments unfold naturally, and photograph people enjoying themselves without interruption. Music was a big part of the day, and Sarah and Tony had a live string quartet and a piano player with a vocalist to set the tone for the ceremony. It was such a classy touch and made the whole setup even more special.

Organised to Perfection

One of the things I noticed straight away was how smoothly everything was run. The staff at Birtsmorton Court are always fantastic, but Tony and Sarah also worked with Kelly-Anne Weddings, and I have to say, Kelly is one of the best wedding planners in Worcestershire. I’ve worked with her a few times, and she always ensures the day runs smoothly. For any couples planning their Worcestershire wedding, I’d definitely recommend checking her out – having a professional planner really takes the pressure off and lets you enjoy the day.

Speeches Full of Surprise

After the drinks reception on the lawn, everyone made their way inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches. I really enjoyed this part of the day because Sarah and Tony’s children all spoke, which was such a lovely and personal touch.

But the biggest laugh came when Tony revealed his surprise for Sarah. Knowing she’s a huge fan of Queen – and especially the drummer Roger Taylor – he pulled out a life-size cardboard cut-out of him during his speech. Nobody saw it coming, least of all Sarah, and the whole room erupted in laughter. It was one of those genuine moments you just cannot plan, and being able to capture her reaction was brilliant.

Karaoke, Dancing, and Party Vibes

After the meal and speeches, the evening really kicked off. One of their friends hosted a karaoke session which was a great way to get everyone involved and added so much energy to the evening. From there, it went straight into the first dance and cake cutting.

Sarah and Tony kept the surprises coming with a twist in their first dance. It started traditionally, but halfway through they switched into a fun, upbeat twist and shout style routine that had everyone cheering. It was the perfect way to set the tone for the night ahead and made for some fantastic photos.

Reflections on the Day

Looking back, this was one of those weddings that reminded me why I love being a creative wedding photographer. Everything about the day at Birtsmorton Court reflected who Sarah and Tony are as a couple – fun, relaxed, full of laughter, and unafraid to do things their way.

For me, that’s what documentary wedding photography is all about. It’s not about staging every shot, it’s about telling the story of the day honestly and naturally. From the bubble guns to the Queen cardboard cut-out, these are the real moments that will bring back memories for years to come.

If you’re planning your own wedding at Birtsmorton Court in Worcestershire, I’d love to hear from you. As a documentary style wedding photographer, I focus on capturing the story of your day exactly as it happens. No forced smiles, no awkward posing – just real moments, real emotions, and a set of images that you’ll treasure forever.
