Wootton Park Wedding, Jo and Chris

Wootton Park Wedding Jo and Chris

There is something about returning to Wootton Park that genuinely resets you as a photographer. This was my first wedding back there this year, and I could not have asked for a better couple to start with than Jo and Chris. From the moment I arrived, the tone of the day was clear. It was calm. It was easy. There was no sense of rushing from one moment to the next or trying to control how the day should look. Instead, everything felt natural, and that always leads to better photographs.

A Relaxed Start and Understanding What Matters

Jo was relaxed from the start, completely present, enjoying every part of the morning. Chris, on the other hand, was a little more reserved. Jo mentioned early on that he was quite shy and not a fan of having his photo taken. That is something I always listen to carefully because it changes how I approach everything. If someone is uncomfortable, the worst thing you can do is draw attention to it or force moments that do not feel right. So from that point on, my focus was simple. Keep things light. Give space. Let moments happen without pressure.

As the morning moved forward, you could already start to see small shifts. Chris was not being pushed into anything. There was no expectation on him to perform for the camera. That allowed him to settle in his own time, which always leads to more genuine moments later in the day.

A Day of Changing Weather and Going With It

As the morning moved into the ceremony, the weather started doing what it often does. It could not quite make its mind up. One minute there was wind, then a bit of rain, then suddenly sunshine breaking through. It would have been easy for that to become a distraction, but Jo and Chris did not let it affect them. They stayed focused on what actually mattered, which was being together and enjoying the day.

That mindset changes everything. It allows me to work around what is happening rather than trying to control it. Instead of worrying about what the weather should be doing, we simply used what we had in each moment. That flexibility always leads to more natural, honest photographs.

Choosing an Outdoor Ceremony and Trusting the Decision

They made the decision to go ahead with an outdoor ceremony, and I am so glad they did. Even with a few spots of rain and some cloud cover, it looked incredible. The setting at Wootton Park, right by the water, creates a natural backdrop that does not need anything extra. It feels open, calm, and completely focused on the couple.

When Jo walked in, there was a real stillness to the moment. No distractions. Just everyone watching, completely present. Those are the moments you cannot manufacture. You can only be ready for them, anticipate them, and capture them as they happen.

Letting the Day Open Up Naturally

After the ceremony, we moved into drinks and relaxed time with guests, and this is always where the day starts to open up. People begin to settle. The formal part is done, and you start to see real interactions. Conversations, laughter, small moments between people that often go unnoticed.

This is where I spend most of my time just observing. Not directing, not interrupting, just capturing what is already there. The more relaxed the couple is, the more this part of the day comes alive, and Jo and Chris created exactly that kind of atmosphere.

Sunset, Space, and Keeping It Simple

We managed to step out for a short period during sunset, and it was perfect timing. Nothing over planned. Just a quiet moment away from everything. Jo and Chris together, taking it in.

I kept it simple. No long sessions, no over direction. Just giving them space and being ready to capture it. Those moments always end up being some of the most meaningful because they are real. You can feel it in the images.

Working With the Space at Wootton Park

The weather continued to shift throughout the afternoon, so we worked around it. Instead of sticking to a strict plan, we took opportunities as they came. If the light opened up, we stepped outside. If the rain came in, we adapted.

That is one of the strengths of Wootton Park. It gives you options. You are not locked into one way of doing things. You can move between indoor and outdoor spaces without losing the flow of the day, and that makes a huge difference when you want to keep things relaxed.

One of my favourite parts of the day was doing the group photos indoors. It is not something I do often, but on this day it made complete sense. Inside the main space, with the large LOVE sign above, it created a completely different energy.

It felt more relaxed, more informal. People were not worrying about standing in the right place or getting back outside quickly. They were just enjoying being together. That always comes through in the photos. When people feel comfortable, it shows.

That Moment at the End of the Night

As the evening picked up and the dance floor filled, the energy changed again. The relaxed feel of the day carried through, but now it was mixed with excitement and celebration. People letting go, enjoying themselves, completely in the moment.

Before I packed away, I went to say goodbye. It is something I always do. It gives me a chance to check in and make sure everything feels right. As I spoke to Chris, he pulled me aside and said something that genuinely stayed with me. He said that I had helped him feel at ease and that he had actually enjoyed having his photo taken. That moment meant a lot. Because for me, this is not just about taking photos. It is about how you feel during the day.

Why Wootton Park Works So Well

Wootton Park is one of those venues that supports this kind of approach perfectly. It gives you space. It gives you flexibility. It allows the day to flow naturally without forcing you into a structure that does not fit.

Whether you are outside by the water, inside in the main space, or moving between the two, everything connects in a way that feels easy. That is exactly what you want on your wedding day.

Thinking About Your Own Wedding Day

If you are planning your wedding at Wootton Park, it is worth asking yourself one simple question. Do you want to spend your day posing for photos, or do you want to actually live it? Because the best images always come from the second option.

If you feel unsure about being in front of the camera, or you have been told you are awkward in photos, you are not alone. Chris felt the same at the start of the day. But by the end, that had completely changed. Not because anything was forced, but because the pressure was removed. That is always the goal. To create a space where you can be yourself, feel comfortable, and trust that everything important will be captured without it taking over your day. And honestly, I cannot wait to be back at Wootton Park again soon.
